SEA TRIAL TO NEWPORT

Plans for a Catalina trip were postponed when we discovered our stuffing box was over heating. Finding a good mechanic on short notice is almost impossible so, because of the delay, we changed our plans. The island would have to wait this time around. The teflon packing was replaced and we were soon on our way to Newport checking the box temperature every 30 minutes. Problem solved! While in Newport the Admiral called two old high school friends that live nearby and we met them at Charlie's Chili for breakfast at the Newport Pier. Fun morning and much to our surprise, we literally bumped into them the next morning as we were taking a walk around Balboa Island. Small world. We spent three pleasant nights at the wide-open and restful Lido anchorage and returned early on Saturday.

THE LAKE

Bear Island is one of many islands located on Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New Hampshire. We just returned from a fabulous visit with Sue's cousin Jean and spent most of the time on Bear at Jean's summer island home. Only accessible by boat, the island is a step back in time and one of the most relaxing places on earth. Thank you Jean for sharing this slice of heaven and your wonderful hospitality. The Maine lobsters and steamers were the best!
