Our annual get-together with three former Cal Poly football teammates and fraternity brothers, and their wives, took us to beautiful Coeur d'Alene Idaho this year. The first night was spent in Cedar City Utah having dinner with another Cal Poly teammate and his family Steve Alzugaray (running back). Then it was on to Pocatello, Butte, Missoula and finally Coeur d'Alene to meet up with John (wide receiver) and Kathy; Rich (quarter back) and Cassie; Bill (center) and Jeanne. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time.
Next up: Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. All three were awesome, breathtaking and unforgettable. This part of our travels took us with stays at the Garrison's B&B in Kalispell Montana, a night in Helena and another two in Jackson and Afton Wyoming. The Kodiac Mountain Resort in Afton was a very pleasant surprise and well deserved after all the driving and miles we were accumulating. Our final stop, before heading home the next morning, was back at Alzugaray's in Cedar City for a home cooked meal, a comfortable bed and plenty of great conversation. Charlene & Steve's B&B can't be beat!
Some of our more memorable moments include, in no particular order, seeing two bear cubs in a tree, bison, elk, deer, moose, long horn steers, cattle, sheep, goats, horses, the Great Salt Lake, the Big Pit in Butte, the local breweries, the street music festival in Missoula, a scenic lake bypass drive and boat ride in Coeur d'Alene, Steve's green and gold caps, huckleberry shakes at Buck's, Willow and Juno at Garrison's, our boat ride to Hidden Falls on Lake Jenny, the national parks, and of course, our wonderful long-time friends from our college days. When it was all said and done, we had driven 3,615 miles in 13 days, traveling through 7 states. Now, that's a ride!
