THE COLD WEATHER CONTINUES

We interrupt this sailing blog to bring you a weather update: cold, wet and colder. Mornings have been in the high 30's/low 40's with daytime temps in the 50's. Plenty of snow in the mountains. Great time to do some interior maintenance projects at home.

A FEBRUARY DAY SAIL

Nice to see the hills green this time of year. Our rain gauge at home has recorded 19.5 inches so far this season.

LONG JOHNS, A WOOL CAP & GLOVES

No such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing and preparation. The recent cold spell did not deter us from getting out of the slip. The Admiral and I decided a few nights in Newport would be fun so off we went. Anchored east of Lido with only a couple of other boats. Met up with high schools friends at Charlies for breakfast Saturday morning after an aborted return trip to Dana. Our venture home Super Bowl Sunday was chilly but a big west swell helped push us along. Very nice three night get-a-way but make sure you bring a warm jacket!

WHALE WATCHING 101

The weather was perfect for an afternoon outing so off we went. It wasn't long before we spied a southbound behemoth. As we closed in with two other boats, we were soon in a whale-watching fleet of about ten vessels. Time for us to peel off and let the big guy continue its trip to sunny Mexico.
