Newport is only a two+ hour trip from Dana, a good alternative to Catalina when your time is limited. We ventured there for two nights recently as our weather has finally turned and it's beginning to feel like Spring. FYI, 37" of rain this season. Met friends at Charlie's for breakfast at the pier and we felt like we were in Venice, Ca. Mellow time on the hook in the turning basin anchorage NW of Lido. Even saw a whale headed north on our trip home. Good trip all around.
A one-nighter at the harbor anchorage got us out of the slip for a fun evening and tasty barbecue. We even had a few fowl friends that wanted to join in the fun.
Audrey Nye, a friend from church, invited us to watch the annual Baldwin Cup Team Races in Newport. The three day event includes teams from across the US and one from the UK. Each race consisted of eight boats (Harbor 20's) four for each team. The course was laid out so three races were going simultaneously, that's twenty-four sail boats total. It was quite a sight as the sailing conditions were excellent and the snow capped mountains made for a perfect backdrop.
