OREGON'S BEAUTIFUL COAST

Time to move on so the Admiral and I loaded up the Honda and off we went on a 2585 mile Oregon coast road trip. Spectacular, to say the least, does not do this coastline justice. We decided to do a counter-clockwise loop driving up the 5, crossing over and traveling west to pick up the 101 then south from there. Our first stop, eleven plus hours later, was in the Redding/Mt.Shasta area.

Next it was off to Cannon Beach for two nights exploring the beaches, restaurants, breweries and the port city of Astoria. While there we visited a maritime museum, took the port trolley and climbed to the top of the city's column.

From Cannon we moved south to an oceanfront room in Lincoln City. Of course we stopped at the Telamook Cheese Factory on the way and sampled a variety of their yummy products.

On to Newport to experience our first ever stay in a yurt at South Beach State Park. We were pleasantly surprised how clean and accommodating the yurts are. They even had a heater, electricity and an air purifier. The beaches stretched for as far as the eye could see.

The next day we moved south to Florence, a quaint historic coastal town on the Siuslaw River. Good eats, good drinks, good times.

Next it was on to Bandon and Bullard's Beach State Park. Time to "yurt" again. This time for two nights. We ventured south to Port Orford for lunch at The Crazy Norwegian's. With a name like that how would anyone pass it up? It was good.

Our next stop from Brandon on the way home was in Santa Rosa for a night of R & R. Bright and early the next morn it was off to San Clemente, a 550 mile day. It was a great trip and we were blessed with wonderful weather. If you haven't visited the Oregon coast, Do It!

  1. Sweet trip. Next time you're in Cannon go to the Pizza Bar. My good friend's niece tends bar there.
